Anal Fistula
An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel between the anal canal and the skin near the anus. It often develops after an anal abscess and may cause recurrent swelling or discharge from a small opening.

What treatment may involve
An anal fistula generally does not reliably close on its own once a persistent tract has formed. Treatment is planned according to its anatomy and may involve a suitable surgical procedure, with the goal of clearing infection while protecting normal continence.
